Stellenbosch University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Cebisa Moyo, opened the Dynamical Systems Theory and Modelling with AI Workshop with a strong message on collaboration, curiosity, and scientific purpose.

Addressing participants from South Africa, Thailand, Greece, and beyond, she highlighted the value of bringing mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and computer scientists into one room to solve difficult problems together.

Professor Moyo emphasised that dynamical systems and differential equations underpin models used in areas ranging from wave dynamics and ecosystems to financial systems, epidemiology, and neural networks.

She noted that the programme bridges classical mathematics, including Lie symmetries, with modern AI and machine learning methods, reflecting Stellenbosch University’s expanding strengths across both domains.
