Matt is a PhD candidate in Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Science. He has a background in computer science, graduating from North West University, followed by a Master’s degree in Business Analytics and Data Science. Before pursuing a PhD, he worked as a machine learning engineer at Capitec Bank.
Matt’s research interests include Quantum Computing, Machine Learning and Neural Architecture Search (NAS). He has published work on the application of NAS to hierarchical quantum circuits, proposing a novel framework for circuit generation and search space design.
Matt has also developed HierarQcal, an open-source Python package. HierarQcal is a quantum circuit builder designed to facilitate the generation of complex quantum circuit architectures. It’s particularly useful for Neural Architecture Search (NAS) and provides a unique approach to the exploration and optimization of quantum circuit designs.
